Complications

Macro vascular complications (because of atherosclerosis and high blood pressure): 

• Heart attack, stroke. 
• Poor peripheral blood flow to limbs.  
   

Micro vascular complications:

• Retinopathy with loss of sight. 
• Nephropathy with decreased function of kidneys. 
• Neuropathy affects the nervous system with loss of feeling, loss of sensitivity to pain, tingling, weakness of muscles, cramps in calves.

Feet complaints because of angiopathy (disease of blood vessels) and neuropathy.


For these reasons, blood sugar level have to be managed as effectively as possible. A Diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes, can decrease lifespan by as much as 12 years.
